8 New DVD Helicopter Training Titles will be launched October 2007
The Pilot's commitment to learning is still the most important part of helicopter career. Improved delivery technology will not create this commitment, but it can nuture and sustain this commitment by offering customized and cost effective learning options within a professional, committed, and supportive environment.
We have collated the knowledge required by that Pilot, and compiled the DVDs in a two instructor format and then flying footage. The DVD board briefs are accurate and comprehensive, while not distracted by concepts best left to subsequent Instrument Flight and Type Endorsement training.
The Helicopter training DVD's contains references to some of the finest Aviation reference books available, experienced instructors. Our DVD's are based on comprehensive research, our explanations are concise, and will stimulate the helicopter student pilots to explore further the subjects that are a vital part of his fundamental training regime.
“The relevance of theory training is only really appreciated when it is viewed from above”
The helicopter DVD's are not structured like a dry theory course, but as board briefs given by Mike Becker and Fergus Ponder, as you would get them delivered as a student sitting in a classroom. The warts and all approach gives the students a relaxed yet comprehensive knowledge base for his ground school elements. Both instructors bring tremendous in-sight, enthusiasm and a great deal of knowledge to the lessons.
The thorough attention to details introduces the students and pilots alike to all the concepts that must become second nature to a career pilot.
This approach makes the DVD's relevant to both future in-flight training, and the Helicopter theory and practical flight tests.
At times the classroom is the helicopter like the Pre-Flight Bell 47 and R22, they are the most thorough pre-flights you are likely to experience. Even old timers have congratulated Mike on their learning and knowledge from these DVD's.
By using the DVD's as a learning tool to enhance your Commercial or Private Helicopter Theory the students view the learning as a milestone in preparing for in-flight training, rather than some barrier that must be overcome before flying can begin.
Testimonial
Hi,
Just want to thank you for the great job you did on the Bell 47 preflight video. I have been flying for a little over 34 years, currently a Captain on the MD-80 for American Airlines. I have always been interested in helicopters from a young age since watching the Whirlybirds on television after school. I know I should have been doing my homework. Well I completed the dream of becoming a helicopter pilot with my commercial add on awhile ago. I have the opportunity to get checked out in a Bell 47G2. Another helicopter pilot that flies the Bell 47 told me about your video. I recently purchased your Bell 47 preflight video. Your video provided great insight on the Bell 47 and its construction. You have a great sense of humor and the ability to convey important information on the preflight and operation of the Bell 47.
Thank you again for the excellent training video. The more you know the more comfortable you become. The great thing in aviation is that you can keep on learning. A wise old Captain told me if you think you flew a perfect trip, then one you weren't paying attention and two it is time to quit because you can always learn something.
Sincerely
B Cox

Helicopter Theory Books written by Helicopter Pilots For Helicopter Pilots.
Mike and his company International Helicopter Theory Pty Ltd, set up a panel of specialists, helicopter pilots (military and civilian alike), flight instructors, licensed mechanical engineers, and a University education specialist from all over the globe to revise, thrash out and edit, the new format Helicopter Pilot Theory series.
Captain Mike Becker is an Civil Aviation Safety Authority, Australia Approved Testing officer, ATPL(H), CPL(A) with over 12,100 flight hours has made it his passion to write a "Helicopter Pilot Training Series".
Two and a half years in development and writing, with extensive high level graphics these books breakdown helicopter theory into understandable non-technical jargon.
This "Helicopter Pilot Training Series" contains references to some of the finest aviation reference books available, a vast level of experience by all involved.
Mike makes no secret of the fact that he did not invent “Vortex Ring”, nor did he develop the aerodynamic model to explain it. But this material is based on methodical research, his explanations are fully comprehensive with loads of graphics to illustrate the points being made and principles being learned.
The "Helicopter Pilot Training Series" makes the course relevant to both the training helicopter pilot, helicopter instructors and the working helicopter pilot who needs to brush up his skills.
This "Helicopter Pilot training Series" is geared towards the Australian CASA and New Zealand CAA Helicopter Commercial and Private Helicopter syllabus but would assist any pilot training worldwide.
Your ground school theory should be viewed as a milestone in preparing for in-flight training, rather than some barrier that must be overcome before flying can begin. This "Helicopter Pilot Training Series" will stimulate the helicopter student pilots to explore further the subjects that are a vital part of his fundamental training regime.
This study series is not slapped together as an after thought or some cheap and cheerful course that does not explain in any details concepts and subject matter so lacking in many courses. Nor is it a rehash of old aviation texts, or old tired helicopter courses that lack content, detail and up to date information. This is new, innovative and will deliver to you the student what you require to pass your exams.
The Helicopter Pilot Training Series is a successful, fully researched and thoroughly written over 2 ½ years. Tested, revised, retested and honed to meet the most challenging students needs.
We have collated the knowledge required by that Pilot, and compiled this series along with the DVD's and videos to compliment the pilots learning.
We have stayed focus on the Commercial and Private pilots concepts.
The Helicopter Pilot's commitment to learning is still the most important part of a helicopter career. Improved delivery technology will not create this commitment, but it can nurture and sustain this commitment by offering learning options within a professional, committed, and supportive environment. This Helicopter pilot Training series will do that.
A series of six books all metal spiral bound for easy studying and durability. This full CPL/PPL Helicopter Theory will see you though your Helicopter Theory and exams. Mike has honed these books and study material to see 96% first time pass rates on theory. Against an industry average of 63% is a testament to the information and format of this series.
The Helicopter Pilot series books are having a resounding success with some students gaining 100% pass marks.
You can just purchase the books stand alone. Maybe purchase and study one at a time, although we recommend some subjects be studied in tandem as there is so much cross over in subject matter that makes the exam make more sense and gives better background knowledge. The courses are listed below in order of study and the related ones are coloured coded to each other. Studying one subject stand alone does not give as much of a chance to pass the exam as your knowledge is lacking in key areas. Even though each exam and subject based there are many questions that are overlapping your better to study as a group than stand alone.

“Training the Next Generation of Helicopter Pilots”
MEDIA RELEASE
Captain Mike Becker has been awarded the “Captain John Ashton Award for Flight Standards and Aviation Safety by the Guild of Air Pilots and Air Navigators of London.”
It’s the first time this distinction has been earned by a helicopter pilot and was given to Captain Becker, Chief Flight Instructor at a helicopter flight school in Queensland, Australia, in recognition of his record of excellence in air safety. Captain Becker’s school has achieved an unrivalled 18,000 hours of accident-free flight training.
Presented by the Guild’s Australian regional body, this award was established in memory of Captain Ashton to recognise the contribution to flight standards and aviation safety by individuals in the Queensland Aviation Industry.
Capt. Mike Becker said “This is an honour to receive such an award. Its terrific to see the helicopter fraternity being recognised for its contribution to aviation. Like all awards I’m not alone in receiving it. It’s an effort of all the team at Becker Helicopters, our instructors, support personnel, and my fellow helicopter pilot and wife Jan.”
This accolade is of particular notoriety because it has been bestowed on Captain Becker by one of the oldest and most renowned professional organisations in global aviation. Founded in 1929, the Guild became a Livery Company of the City of London in 1956, making it the 81st company to receive the Livery in 800 years. To this day only 103 Livery companies exist. This rarely bestowed mark of distinction has been instrumental in increasing the stature and influence of the Guild and those associated with it and recognised by it.
The Guild is a London-based organisation patronised by His Royal Highness Prince Phillip, Duke of Edinburgh. Presiding over operation as Grand Master is His Royal Highness Prince Andrew, Duke of York. It was formed by a group of commercial pilots to ensure the status of all air pilots and air navigators and represents pilot and navigator interests within all areas of aviation.
The Guild annually presents trophies and other awards for outstanding performance in the realm of aviation, to promote global standards of air safety. Captain Becker was nominated for the safety award by Geoff Forsaith, a 73-year old veteran of the aviation industry.
“I nominated Captain Becker for his passion and continual quest for excellence in flight training and pursuit of safety and high standards,” said Mr Forsaith. “Mike is passionate and his devotion to safety is evident and he is instilling this into the minds of the next generation of helicopter pilots.”
Mike holds an ATPL (H) and CPL (A), Multiengine IFR and has flown accident free for over 11,000 hours and has been a consultant for the Australian Civil Aviation Safety Authority with a team of others writing the Australian National Standard for Helicopter training.
